Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in joining our community. Dismas House is a residential reentry program dedicated to supporting individuals transitioning from incarceration. We provide a family-centered, supportive environment where residents work toward rebuilding their lives with dignity and purpose. While we often assist individuals experiencing housing insecurity, we are not a homeless shelter — we are a community focused on growth, healing, and connection.
We welcome residents from all backgrounds and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, familial status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other protected characteristic. We also provide reasonable accommodations to ensure an accessible and empowering environment for all.
Who Thrives at Dismas House
Residents who succeed here are ready for change, committed to accountability, and motivated to build a life they are proud of. They actively engage in community life, set personal goals (such as employment, education, or family reunification), and embrace the journey of personal growth and healing.
House Guidelines
To keep our community safe and supportive, we follow these core guidelines:
-
Respect Everyone: No violence, threats, or harassment.
-
Commit to Sobriety: Dismas House is a substance-free environment.
-
Maintain Healthy Boundaries: No romantic relationships among residents, staff, or volunteers.
-
Appropriate Materials: No pornographic materials on-site.
-
Engage in Community: Attend family dinners Monday–Thursday at 6:30 PM.
-
Guest Policy: Visitors are welcome in common areas; no overnight guests.
-
Safe Environment: Smoking only in designated areas; maintain cleanliness and report any damage.
Application Process
After receiving your completed application, we’ll request any needed documents (such as a DOC progress report or PSI). Next, we’ll schedule a 30–45 minute interview (by phone or in person) to learn more about you and your goals. All applications are reviewed individually and fairly. We’ll keep you updated throughout the process and are happy to answer questions along the way.
If you're ready to commit to personal growth and join a supportive community, we encourage you to apply.
Together in hope,
Andee Huxhold
