The Need

Dismas House of Indiana exists because no one thrives alone. As human beings, we are wired for connection—yet for individuals coming home after incarceration, community is often the hardest thing to find. The barriers are immense: the stigma of a record, the struggle for stable housing and employment, and the loss of trust and support systems. Too many are left isolated, with few options but to return to the cycles that led them to prison in the first place. We believe in breaking that cycle through belonging. Dismas House is a place where individuals exiting incarceration are welcomed, valued, and given the support they need to rebuild their lives. Because when people have community, they have hope—and with hope, transformation is possible.

The Mission

Dismas House fosters healing, belonging, and self-determination for individuals returning from incarceration in a supportive family-centered home. We work to reduce recidivism and address systemic barriers through compassionate, community-driven care and meaningful connections.

The Vision

We envision a society where restorative justice and equity allow all people to heal, thrive, and disrupt cycles of incarceration. A future where every individual is welcomed into a supportive community, fostering resilience, dignity and hope.
