Today is Giving Tuesday, and we are inviting you to engage with the work of reentry, healing, and community building in whatever way fits your budget, interests, and passion.

Below are five meaningful ways to invest in the work happening every day at Dismas House and The Dismas Hub — two spaces carrying one mission of belonging, dignity, and second chances.

1. Purchase an Item From Our Dismas Wish List:

Providing essentials like bedding, pantry items, hygiene supplies, and cleaning products ensures that people returning from incarceration have what they need to begin again in safety and stability.

2. Buy a Book, Donate a Book (From Any Bookseller — We love Brain Lair Books!):

Our Dismas Reading List highlights books on the realities of incarceration and reentry, many written by people who have lived it. These books help all of us learn together, deepen understanding, and reduce stigma.

Donated copies help keep free, accessible books available at The Dismas Hub, where anyone in the community can read and learn without financial barriers.

3. Sign Up to Host a Mini Fundraiser in 2026:

This year, community-led events — from the Keenan Revue, to Sunnyside Presbyterian’s Trivia Night, to St. James Cathedral’s Shortcakes on the Blacktop — helped fuel programs, meals, emergency support, and creative opportunities.

In 2026, we would love to include your idea. A dinner, game night, concert, or neighborhood gathering can help sustain the work, and our staff, board, and senior residents are ready to support your planning.

4. Invite Someone Into This Community:

Last year’s friendraiser campaign helped hundreds of new people learn about the work — all through personal invitations, shared posts, and community storytelling.

We’d be grateful if you helped us do it again: share a post, invite someone to follow our page, or tell a friend why this work matters to you. Awareness strengthens the mission.

5. Make a Giving Tuesday or Year-End Gift:

Your generosity helps sustain everything from case management, community meals, and resident support, to programming at The Hub, family-focused initiatives, and neighborhood engagement. This work is only possible because people like you choose to invest in dignity, connection, and opportunity.

Thank you for walking alongside this work — through gifts, through community, and through your steady belief in second chances. However you engage today, you help build a South Bend where everyone has the opportunity to belong.

With gratitude,

Andee Huxhold
